Job Description Head Cook

Summary:  As cafeteria head cook your responsibilities are to open cafeteria at 6:30 A.M.; prepare and serve breakfast and lunch daily; Monday through Friday 6:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. or as requested by the manager.  Hours average 35 hours per week; with payday every two weeks. Every nine weeks there is a two week break and two months off in the summer.

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in preparing, cooking, and serving food in the cafeteria. Clean premises and wash dishware.

Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds minimum, preferred is 40 to 50 pounds.  Cook is expected to accept groceries and put up groceries in freezer and cold storage and place milk orders on Friday.

Must have some cooking experience.  Keep daily record of meals served.  Follow policies and procedures; Supports organizations goals and values.  Responsibilities also include helping to maintain a correct inventory based upon Food Service Managers purchases.

Microsoft software is used in the daily record keeping; must have experience in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word.

Written communication- writes clearly and informatively; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information.

Mathematical Skill-Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; converting pounds to ounces; computing serves.

Attendance/Punctuality – Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.

Dependability- Follow instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keep commitments.

Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations-Current driver’s license, Gila County Food Handlers card.  If you don’t have a card the school will set you up to take the test.  Must pass a background check.
